For the eighth year, our classroom will participate in the Trout in the Classroom program.
Through the generosity of the John Kennedy Blair County Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the PA Fish & Boat Commission, we will raise brook trout in a 55 gallon tank in our classroom. With the help of our very own "Trout Guy" ( Mr. Green), after our eggs arrive in November, we will monitor their life processes, development and water quality. The culmination of the project is a field trip to Clover Creek at the Henrietta Sportsmen's Club. Students release the trout fingerlings into an ideal habitat, and then have educational stations to rotate through. Students will take a stream hike, learn to tie flies, test water quality, and study the invertebrates collected from the creek. There is also time built into the day for students to fish or hike, as well as a great picnic! Parents & Grandparents are welcome to attend the trip, although you'll be working with students on their stations (no such thing as a free lunch!) There is a $10 charge for the trip to cover the price of the buses & lunch. Contact Mrs. Hogan if that causes a hardship. |
